VOLUNTEERING

As you may know,
Cincinnati USA was selected over 20 cities to host the 2012
World Choir Games (WCG), the world’s largest choral competition, July 4-14, 2012. Inspired by
the Olympic ideal, the goal of the WCG is to unite people from
all nations through singing in peaceful competition. The 2012
WCG is expected to:
- Attract 400 choirs (302 choirs from 42 countries have
registered as of December 31),
- Bring together 20,000 participants from more than 70
countries, including performers, staff, delegations and
international jury members, and
- Deliver up to 200,000 spectators.
This will be the first time the event is held in North America.
There will be 23 different musical categories evaluated by an
impartial international jury. Categories include: barbershop,
show choirs (both for the first time in the WCG history),
folklore, jazz, pop, gospel, spiritual and more. This will be
the largest and most significant international arts event ever
in the history of Cincinnati USA.
As you can imagine, one of our greatest needs for the 2012 WCG
is interpreters who can facilitate effective conversations with
our foreign visitors. Lisa Auciello, City of Cincinnati Training
Register and Chair of the City’s Cultural Affairs Committee, has
advised that you have some foreign language skills. I am writing
to invite (beg) you to become a volunteer for the 2012 WCG.
Please complete our on-line registration at
www.2012worldchoirgames.com/volunteers. After you have
registered, you will receive additional information. Also,
please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.

Old St.
Mary's Crisis Pregnancy
Center needs YOUR HELP!
Once
a month or once a week,
volunteers are needed to
help at Old St. Mary's
Pregnancy Center, 123 E.
13th Street, Cincinnati,
45202. Old St. Mary's is
the busiest pregnancy
center in the tri-state
area, serving hundreds
of women and their
families in crisis. The
Center has need for the
following:
-
a
secretary to answer the
phone and set up
appointments,
-
pro-life counselors to
help with pregnancy
tests for clients who
may be abortion-minded,
-
people to sort donations
of clothing and other
baby items,
-
bible study leaders for
a 30-minute discussion
usually centered around
the daily Mass readings
(which are presented
daily to clients before
they receive a
distribution of diapers,
formula, clothing, baby
equipment, etc., to be
fed spiritually as well
as physically),
-
distribution personnel,
to follow certain
guidelines and give out
the donated items to the
poorest of the poor, and
-
monetary donations, as
funds are lower than
they have been in years.
"Whatever you do for the
least of my brothern,
that you do unto Me,"
Jesus said (see Matthew,
Chapter 25). The
Pregnancy Center is
opened from 1 - 5 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday.
Your help and as well as
your donations are most
welcome and appreciated.
No one at the Center is
paid ~ all are
volunteers. If you can
volunteer or donate in
any way, please contact
Terri Huwel, Director,
at
