COMMISSION GOALS

Christian Outreach – The following Christian Outreach goals were received:

To continue providing service to those in need through all the outreach collections throughout the year.

To continue the twinning relationship with Our Lord of Hope Parish in Lima, Peru by: updating and renewing the Covenant between St. Ann and Lord of Hope, exploring the possibility of an exchange trip with the people of St. Ann and Our Lord of Hope, continuing the support of programs already in place between the two parishes.

To organize and give the St. Nick Party in Hazard, KY; to assist the St. Ann Youth Group in their efforts to help the people of Hazard, KY.

To promote Ecumenical activities with neighboring churches.

To continue to explore the possibilities of the churches in Colerain Township working together in certain outreach programs.

To inform the parish about peace and social justice issues when they arise through support of the social justice committee.

To support and aid the parish nurse ministry when and where needed.

To provide opportunities for service projects to the children and parishioners of St. Ann.

Development – No goals set.

COMMISSION REPORTS

Christian Outreach – Several members attended the fundraising dinner sponsored by New Hope Ministries.  Social Justice Ministry is hosting a Parishes for Life event on June 26 & 27.  Fr. Tom is reviewing the literature which will be presented.  In July the focus will be on Immigration followed by a presentation on Foreclosure in August or September.  Goals were approved.

Communications – The guidebook is complete and has been received in homes.  This was provided at no cost to the parish.  Parishioners are encouraged to patronize our donors.

Development – No meeting

Finance

·              Sunday Offerings are down $77,278.15 for the year – Looking at approximately $90,000 drop             for the year ending 6/30/10.

·              The tuition assistance matching fund drive has met the goal of $10,000.

·              The profit for the 2009 Daily Raffle was $11,346.  Centsible Shopping is continuing to revise the shopping list.  Non profitable cards will be dropped.  Several new vendors have been added.

·              Cunneen Update – Steve Lang is looking at the feasibility of implementing this stewardship program in Fall, 2010.

·              Building & Grounds – The property agreement is being reviewed by Archdiocesan attorney.  All four covenant parishes must agree to the agreement.   Tim Clifford is to provide the names of committee members to Parish Pastoral Council.

·              Bob Dressman questioned if the assessment payment has been made.  The next payment is due in June.  Fr. Tom stated the debt payments are being made regularly.

·              Back Lot – Colerain Township contracts are now being decided; we will piggy-back on their contractors.

·              St. Francis Center Renovation – the building needs to be renovated for hard wiring for the computer usage.  The parish offices will not be moved to the St. Francis Center until late 2011.

·              The finance commission is discussing a possible new raffle idea.  It has been suggested we hold a separate raffle for a $50,000 prize.  1,000 tickets would sell for $100 each.  This raffle will be marketed to people outside the parish rather than ask parishioners to spend additional funds.  It may be drawn at the festival or may be a separate “stand-alone” fundraiser.

·              Debt Reduction fund as of 5/13/10 stands at $329,395.05

Laity – Finalized plans for hosting the June 13 coffee & donuts to honor those couples celebrating 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries.

St. Ann Men’s Golf League Report – 2010  Gerry Procter has been in charge of the St. Ann men’s golf league for 6 years and was the person contacted. This year he has a co-partner, Mr. Hollis Haggard III, for running the league, as Gerry’s work travel schedule has increased.

The league plays on Thursday evenings at Miami Whitewater golf course from April to September. Tee times start at 5 pm. There are at present 35 golfers in the league and they are in need of one more to round it off to 36 players. After playing 9 holes of golf, some members gather for refreshments at the clubhouse restaurant. The league was started in the 1960’s and has been active ever since.

An idea is under consideration to have a women’s league play the opposite nine holes concurrently with the men’s league. Enough women would need to be recruited for this to happen.  Also under consideration is a fund raising golf outing that could help with OLG tuition assistance, but nothing has been firmed up as of this report.

            New members are always welcome

St. Ann's Couples Golf League has been in existence for almost fifty years.  When this league was started, all of its members were from St. Ann Parish.  However, over all these years the membership has changed.  At this time, there are only five members who are from St. Ann 's and the rest are from the west side of Cincinnati .  We do have at least four from our parish who are on the sub list.

Ten couples play every Tuesday evening during the months of May, June, July and August at Robin's Nest in Harrison, Ohio.  After we finish, Robin's Nest prepares dinner for us and we eat in their clubhouse or out on the patio.

For the past several years in September, we have been spending two nights at Kings Island Inn, playing golf both days at the Bruin Course.  On the second evening we have our "banquet" and various prizes for the season of golf are awarded.   Submitted by Lois Davis

Liturgy –Sign-ups for servers, Eucharistic ministers and lectors were held after masses.  Training will take place in June.  A Minster’s Evening will be rescheduled next year.

The Ice Cream Social will be on Sunday June 20th.   As we conclude the “Year of Priests” the 11:30 Mass on that day will be for our parish priests and include some special surprises at the Ice Cream Social.   Parishioners will be asked to write a note or card of reflection to our priests thanking them for the blessings they give us.  Baskets will be available for this purpose.   A “Prayer for Priests” will also be handed out that weekend.

Holy Week and Easter services were reviewed with suggestions for improvements next year.

“Fun”draisers

Carnival – Additional help is needed.  The raffle ticket responses are slightly less than last year.  Monday afternoon from 1 – 4 pm will still be a family fun zone with no alcohol sales.

Parish Council/Commission Dinner – Richard Sweet reports reservations are coming in slowly.  All commission representatives are asked to contact members and encourage making reservations.  Flo will make copies of the commission constitutions, goals and rosters for all commission members.  Doug Amend will assemble this information in folders for each commission member.  Bill Witzgall will order catering from Olive Garden.

Elections Results – Marianne Rosemond thanked members for their assistance.  Bill New will again represent Laity Commission; Dave Nagel will represent Communications.  Doug Moore, Pat Bracken and Kelli Lackman are new members at large.  They have been notified of their election and they have been invited to attend the June dinner.

Parish Picnic – A member at large is asked to chair the welcome table events at the parish picnic at Strickers Grove.  Bob Dressman volunteered to coordinate this effort.  Tim Clifford will continue to provide the prizes and supplies.  The welcome table will be moved to the front entrance. Several workers are needed each hour to encourage people to sign in, guess the candy count and purchase split the pot tickets.  Eileen will have the sign-up sheet at the June event.  SAMA will be responsible for the food.

Evening of Reflection – Fr. Huvane will present the evening.  Flo will call Pinecroft to reserve the facility.

Future Discussions:

Education Commission – Some problems with sacramental prep are still being worked out.  It was commented that some areas of First Communion prep felt “weak”.  Marianne Rosemond observed that some consolidated schools utilize a Coordinator of Religious Education to oversee sacramental preparation.  Could Diane Ferrier utilize email to contact students to encourage the separate elements of sacramental preparation?  Steve Lang pointed out the need to emphasize our identity as a faith community of St. Ann.  What events are being planned to build the faith community at St. Ann?  Fr. Tom agrees we need to develop an adult Religious Education Commission.  Ruth Ravenna asked about the participation of young adults and their families at St. Ann.  Fr. Tom and Jean Budke responded that our Masses are well attended by this age group, especially when compared to other parishes.  The youth seem to respond best to service opportunities.  What about an on-line youth group?  Should we create a survey?

            Mission – planned for Advent.

Alumni Award - Marianne suggested we revitalize the Alumni Award to be given from St. Ann Parish during Catholic Schools Week.  The qualifications would be: Alumni from St Ann (10 years out); be a practicing Catholic, and involved in the community.  A database of alumni from St. Ann does exist from which to draw.  Put on the September agenda.

Bob Dressman made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:52 pm.  Ruth Ravenna seconded the motion.

Respectfully submitted,

Eileen McGuiggan
