Minutes of St. Ann’s Christian Outreach Commission Meeting
Wednesday,  May 9, 2012

Our monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 , in the St. Francis Parish Center.  Present were:  Pat Dieckman, Joe Montgomery, Helene Schrand, Ron Enderle, Pedro and Sharon Barraza, Scott Senefeld,  Mike Villari, Diane Graff, Rosie Rettig, Joanna Leidenbor, and Flo Fisse.  The meeting opened with a prayer.

Pat passed out copies of our COC Goals for 2012-2013 which she had slightly amended.  We made several additional minor changes which Pat will incorporate and send to Parish Council.

Mail:  Pat went through the mail.  We received a Thank You from Sister Carol Ann of Vine Street for the 25 fans we donated to her (Joe delivered them a week ago, with Bill).  We received solicitations from several organizations, including St. Leo’s and the Drop In Center.  We will discuss donations at the end of the meeting.

Activities:

a)      Fans:  Joe bought fans and he and Bill Holtgrefe delivered them to our four ministries.  Cost was $1396 for 100 fans.  Bill told Joe that the crafts for the St. Nick party were done.  He wanted suggestions, but he is doing good on his own.  He offered to string rectangular ornaments, but we want to do figures (angles, trees, etc.—Pat will see if Diane Ferrier has an Ellison machine for cutout.

b)      Paper Collection and Missionary Mass on June 16-17 (Father’s Day).  Paul had sent in an article for the Newsletter.  We need to find a place to store the donations overnight.

Volunteers for Collection on June 16-17:

8:00 Mike, Joanna and Joe     9:30 Ron and Diane   11:30 Rosie, Scott and Pat

       4:30  Pedro and Sharon

c)      School Collection (Aug) -  SuCasa does not need anything this year.  Pat will check to see if OLG school needs supplies;

d)      Cookies -  Joe thought we collected 86 dozen bags.

e)      Goals 2012-2013:  We went over the goals, which are due to Parish Council in September.  Pat added the “possibility of an exchange trip” with Our Lord of Hope in Lima Peru.  Also added to support and aid St. Vincent DePaul, and change St. Ann Youth Group to G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together), their new name for the four-parish combined youth group.

f)       Giving Tree Labels:  Jackie had sent a list to Pat of our labels, which we went over and changed.  We put in bookbags and GED calculators in place of watches and made a few other changes.

 Committee Reports:

a)                  Parish Council Report:  PC will run a new candidate for parish council rep for COC in the next election. They have postponed the election at this time.   We discussed Fr. Tony Muller’s funeral, which Flo said was beautiful – 42 priests were in attendance.  It can be viewed on the Comcast on our website.

b)                  Twinning:  Pedro had nothing to report, as he received no response to the emails since Fr. Jorge is out of town until June 6th.   Fr. Jorge had confirmed that they received the money for the school children that was sent in November 2011.  Pedro will try to find out some information on the scholarship winners so we can put it in our newsletter.  We agreed to send our usual $3000 for the school breakfast program and another $2000 for the scholarship program for 2013.  Helene will do a forwarding letter and send to Flo.  This needs to be done before June 30, 2012, our fiscal end of year.

c)                  Health Ministry:  Rosie had nothing to report—they are done until September.

d)                  Social Justice:  no report

e)                  Web Page/Pictures – pictures are on the website from our Lenten Program.

Additional Items:

Parish Budget:  We have left from our Parish Funds $3493.37 which we can disburse before June 30th:  After discussion it was agreed to donate the following:

              Balance remaining                                                                                          $813.37

Pat, Scott and Rosie will determine on June 17th if additional paper goods need to be purchased.  We will spend up to $500 if needed.  (I don’t think we provided for zeroing out our 2012 Parish budget amount, unless we add it to the St. Ann Tuition Assistance donation.)    We asked Dan Rettig if St. Vincent DePaul needed papergoods, and he indicated that yes, they did.  We will include them in our distribution.

 Additional Activity:

1)        Flo suggested that we might want to invite some local churches to one of our meetings, to find out what they do in their outreach programs.  The three churches we combine with for Thanksgiving services are:  Groesbeck Methodist, White Oak Christian Church (formerly White Oak Presbyterian) and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

2)  Show our appreciation to our St. Ann Parish for their generous support of our activities.

There being no further business, the meeting closed with a prayer.  There are no meetings in June and July.  Our next meeting will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
